Simply put, these rugs are astoundingly gorgeous. And the Lady Liberty Trading Company sells more than just rugs – there are ornaments, and you can even buy the pattern to make your own rug! More interesting than that is the history behind these gorgeous works of art:
“In the 18th & 19th centuries women used a “penny” (about the size of our modern half dollar coin) as a template to cut circles of useable wool fabric from old clothing and blankets, etc. They then sewed these circles together into “rugs” (anything that lay on a flat surface). What we call a bedspread they called a bed rug, what we call a table runner they called a table rug, etc. They were never intended for the floor.”
Are you familiar with these rugs? I’m dying to know more, so if you’ve made one, let me know!
